Continental kit licence bracket

I am installing a continental kit on a 1957 retractable. My question is when the dealer performed installation did they leave the original license bracket in place or remove it and plug the holes?
Also what was used to mount the license in the new location? I have seen the Fairlane flipdown bracket used or a simple bar bracket mounted directly to the continental lid which will work well with the 57 license light placement.
Hopefully someone can help with this.

I used a portion of a stainless steel mirror to make a bracket, had to try several bends to make it work, but it looks good.
