    Disc Brake Conversion

Some day soon I want to convert my front brakes to Disc from Drum. With that being said I have a neighbor whos getting rid of a 1990 Oldsmobile with 14 inch rims and the car had disc brakes on it. Can I use these rims for my conversion project or no?

Do I need to get rims from a late 70's ford instead?

That's a conversion I'd like to do someday too.
I think the answer to your question depends on how you make the conversion. If you go with the standard changeover, you'll end up with the same bolt pattern as the stock Ford drum brakes. In that case, I believe the GM wheels won't fit. I'm sure you could put GM disc brake assemblies on your car if you really wanted to. The Olds rims would fit in that case.

You need a kit for Fords, forget the olds parts. Wilwood among others sell them.

Your drum brakes can be relined with softer linings that will help them stop quicker.

    Goodluck,
