Tension of "V" Belt on Select Air Compressor for 1959 Skyliner 332CI

Does anyone know the proper tension (in foot pounds) for the “V” belt on the 1959 Skyliner 332CI Select Air conditioner compressor? The manual requires making a wooden jig and then inserting a special gauge thru the jig to measure the tension. I’m looking for the simple solution to this.

Also, I am looking for your recommendation for a good tension gauge.

I think that a v belt would be adjusted in inch pounds not foot pounds but I don't think that it would be necessary to adjust with a gauge, if you can deflect the belt more than 1/2" it probably should be tightened but it should not be so tight that it doesn't deflect a little. Getting the belt too tight would be hard on the bearings so just tight enough so there is no slippage is best.
