40 years ago movie titled French Connection . Movie had a 1959 black retractable chase . If I remember correct the car got smashed . Any members know about whereabouts of this movie car ? I'm guessing 1971 this Skyliner would have been low cost . Likely car got junked after crashing it . You never can tell someone out there might have the car . James Bond drove a 1957 brown Skyliner in a later movie . Can't think of the title . Bond was in Cuba driving back roads . Our cars are Bond 007 character cool . Movie makers actions have picked this car . Actions speak loader than words .

I have seen a black 1959 skyliner used on the Perry Mason show and I have seen them on other shows and movies in the back ground , but like most of the actors they are most likely long gone? Just the same it is fun to see them.

The bond movie was thunderball. In the temptations movie, there is a scene of a red & white 58 with the roof in motion. Also, in chasing 300 for scenes taking place in 1966, henry kopczak's gulfstream blue 58 appears twice. Once top up, then top down in another.

I remember seeing the black '57 Skyliner in Thunderball. I don't remember that particular scene though. Was Bond operating the 007 smoke screen or did he just need a ring-job?

Thanks for posting those pictures Lars...Great Stuff!

By the way, I believe there is a movie from a few years ago called 'Ya Ya or Wa Wa Sister Hood' (something like that anyway). Somewhere during that movie I remember seeing a nice '58 Skyliner a couple of times.
And let's not forget the epic cinema masterpiece...Ford Fairlane. Andrew Dice Clay supposedly blew up a red and white '57 in that one!

Note also that Thunderball was shot in England, as are most of the James Bond films. The Skyliner is carrying a British registration plate. US built cars were pretty rare here, even in the 60s, due to high road taxes and fuel costs, and most here were left behind by servicemen on the air bases. So a rough estimate of maybe a couple of hundred 57 Fords of all models in the whole country, and they had to pick a Skyliner to destroy !

This thread is yet another glaring reminder of what useless, crappy outfit Photobucket is.

Hello,

interesting thread - but as droptopford said - no pictures to see! @ Lars, could you put the photos somewhere else online so we can see them? Photobucket ist not showing them.

Thanks Johannes

Yes... Thanks Lars! Great pics and it's good to see them back up.

(All over the web on sites like this, thousands of pictures that were hosted by Photobucket have disappeared.

I don't blame them for wanting to make a buck. What I do blame them for is changing their policies after the fact. If they wanted to charge new customers for their service...fine. Their attempt to extort payment from existing members/customers for a service that was advertised as free is deplorable. I'll go out of my way to do business with anyone but Photobucket.)

Wow... Looks like someone was listening.

Denver, May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —

Photobucket today announced new, comprehensive and flexible image storage and hosting options that are being rolled out by a new management team focused on doing the right thing for customers. To re-establish trust among its long-standing and new customers, Photobucket has made changes to its pricing model that includes a competitively priced plan that fits the needs of many of its customers.

Photobucket is now offering a new, competitive subscription package with an ad-free experience, storage and third-party image hosting for just $1.99 per month (or $19.99 per year) – which is 95% less than their previous image hosting plan. A free subscription option is still available to customers who do not require third-party image hosting.

Photobucket’s new CEO is Ted Leonard, a technology and finance industry veteran who has deep roots as an entrepreneur. Over the past six months, he has assembled an experienced and customer-focused management team that has been working around the clock to reinvent Photobucket’s pricing structure and packages in a way that will best support customer needs. The new management team has a vision for building a renewed Photobucket that can attentively and fairly serve customers while also moving toward a sustainable business model.

Hopefully under new management things will improve. Maybe I'll give them another shot.

Okay, not a movie and possibly not a Skyliner (might be a Sunliner; I can't tell). This recent TV commercial for the South Beach diet caught my eye. Besides the obvious eye-catching scenery, there is a very quick glimpse of something cool at the :32 or :33 second mark. The producers clearly wanted to show something classy.

Good catch! I think it's a Sunliner from the looks of the chrome trim at the windshield header.

Perry Mason drove a 57,58, and 59 Skyliner in the original series. The 58 is the hardest to find, I think they always showed him driving it a night.
